Mike is planting garlic given to us by his friend. In the pantry bed. We grew beans in that bed this year, so the reasoning is that we will not grow beans or peas there in this coming year. Companion planting experts say garlic is good to plant all around everything but peas and beans. Next year I plan to concentrate on tomatoes, since my crop had a serious setback this year with the grass clippings and weather etc which all seemed to conspire towards a serious case of blossom end rot. I did not keep adequate track of the varieties which did not succumb. I will need to can extra next year.
